Curriculum

Intent

At Beedon CE Primary, we have designed our curriculum with our children's needs in mind. We use a project-based, thematic approach provides our children with a range of rich and memorable learning experiences. Learning at Beedon is underpinned by our Christian Values (Hope, Perseverance, Friendship, Forgiveness, Service, Respect) and our Christian Vision “life in all its fullness.” This is an integral part of teaching at Beedon CE Primary; nurturing every individual’s unique skills and talents; inspiring and challenging every child to achieve more than they ever thought possible. Metacognition and self-reflection are key to our approach. Because our children understand how they learn, they are able to take risks, accept new challenges and see mistakes as part of learning. Our focus on oracy helps our children to explain their learning and to work collaboratively with others.

Implementation

In September 2021, our teachers moved to use the Knowledge Rich Projects in the Cornerstones 22 curriculum as a starting point to support the planning and resourcing of our curriculum. Cornerstones is a four-stage pedagogy built on academic research and years of practical teaching experience. Our curriculum is broad, balanced and meets the requirements of the national curriculum. We believe that one of the main principles of an ambitious curriculum is that ambitious learning, particularly knowledge acquisition, should be an entitlement for all children, regardless of their starting points or prior learning. Our teachers adapt the Cornerstones lessons to meet the needs of the learners in their classes using the resources flexibly and providing support through discussion, group work and reading information aloud.
